Education for the Good trainings increase educator capacity by making diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice central to professional learning. Trainings can be offered as webinars, half-day seminars, full-day workshops, or multi-day institutes.
INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS

The Social Justice Standards
This training introduces the Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards (SJS)—a roadmap for anti-bias education at every grade level. The SJS framework bridges prejudice reduction efforts with structural goals of equity and social justice, showing how both are necessary in diverse 21st-century schools. Led by the standards’ principal author, participants will learn how to use the framework’s domains, anchor standards, and student outcomes in their work.

Speak up at School
This training develops the skills for educators to respond when someone—a student, a colleague, a caregiver—uses biased language or stereotypes in school. We will identify the harmful impact of biased language on our school community and consider ways we can address it in our daily work as educators. Participants will learn specific strategies for speaking up to prejudice and think about how we might help students and families use these same strategies.

Critical Conversations in the Classroom
This training builds educator capacity to confidently and skillfully facilitate critical conversations in the classroom. Active participation in our diverse democracy requires students to both think for themselves and talk to one another. Effective critical conversations—about racism, gender bias, ableism, xenophobia, religious and anti-LGBTQ+ bias, and other prejudices—help students learn these skills. Participants will learn strategies for preparing themselves and supporting their students in discussing the relationship between identity and power and the way injustice affects our lives and society.

Teaching for Critical Consciousness
This training provides a deep dive into the Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards (SJS) and how they can be implemented through the curriculum in ways that build an understanding of systems of oppression and how they can be transformed. The organization of the training is aligned to the domains of Identity, Diversity, Justice, and Action. Led by the standards’ principal author, participants will learn key entry points for integrating the SJS into lessons, units, and assessments (establishing a meaningful purpose for learning; creating culturally responsive learning tasks; addressing bias and representation in content; planning for effective critical conversations).
The training incorporates multimedia content, personal reflection, group discussion, modeling, and time for application and exploration.

Building a Beloved School Community
This training examines how the Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards can be implemented through school culture and climate to create communities where all students, and all groups of students, are welcomed, respected, cared for, and supported. The organization of the training is aligned to the domains of Identity, Diversity, Justice, and Action. Led by the standards’ principal author, participants will learn key entry points for integrating the SJS into school culture.
The training incorporates multi-media content, personal reflection, group discussion, modeling, and time for goal-setting.

Cohorts provide a structured and hands-on experience of inquiry, application, and implementation to a group of educators who form a professional learning community

Anti-bias Curriculum Cohort
The goal of this year-long Cohort is to implement the Social Justice Standards through a process of instructional planning and backwards design. Participating educators learn specific techniques and receive one-one-one support to develop (or revise) a unit of study in alignment with the Identity, Diversity, Justice and Action framework.
The cohort is a hybrid model with educators participating individually or in pairs. We begin with a day-long in-person seminar where teachers reflect on their existing pedagogy and decide where in the curriculum to focus. During the SY, professional learning takes place through asynchronous tasks and customized virtual coaching sessions. Each teacher/team participates in four coaching sessions. To prepare for coaching, participants view instructional modules and complete an online workbook.
At the end of the process, each teacher will have developed their own ABCD Unit Blueprint. The signature outcome of the Cohort, these teacher-written anti-bias unit plans are ready to be used in the classroom. Cohort members discuss their experiences and share their work at an end-of-the-year anti-bias curriculum community showcase.
